Okay, I think I know what the 1.11 uber build will be now...

Here's my idea now. Sorceress, max Energy Shield, max Telekinesis. NO
points in Vitality, spend EVERYthing not needed for item reqs on Energy.
Get as much +mana gear as possible. Now, with the Sorc getting more mana
than anyone else per Energy point, she'll have nearly as much "life" as the
average Barb, only her life meter is the blue ball, not the red one. Still
trying to decide on an attack strategy. I was thinking of just getting a
high elemental damage weapon like Gimmershred or Baranar's and pumping the
masteries, but that's been done. (Gimmer is too slow for my tastes anyways,
but Baranar's is tempting...) I suppose if you have so much mana, you might
be able to pull off a Nova sorc pretty well this way, but then the Novas
would take away from your "life" meter. Maybe if I just stick with the
Enchantress on this one, though that's 3 more skills to max, and it might
not be quite so viable without any other attacks. My basic intent is for
her to have almost no life at all, and depend entirely on the Energy Shield
and high mana to keep her alive. I've never really tried anything like
this, so I'm not sure how well it will fly. In fact, since 1.10, I haven't
spent a single point in Energy on any of my chars. Might be worth doing
just for something different...

IIRC DH is, like Joseph, ahead of his time. He comes up with ideas and then
n patches later it kicks ass.

Or something,

"It's perfectly possible to tank the 4th and 5th group of Baal's
Minions while at 1 hp with this build. I've done so at least 10 times
in Nightmare when leveling up. But although possible and kinda cool,
it's generally still a bad idea to run around in Hell with just 1
life. "

Sounds interesting. :)

That would be a build like all Mage builds in Diablo 1.
That makes me think:
I don't think the sorc will need that much mana, she needs as many
+skill points as possible, ES is capped at lvl40 with absorbs damage
95%, if you can reach that lvl with +skills. You only need telekinesis
(at lvl20 -> 1 point damage absorbed == 0.75 point mana drained) and
enough items with "Damage taken goes to mana". Having this your only
damage will be the 5% not absorbed.
AFAIK first the damage is computed and drained from your mana pool, then
the "Damage taken goes to mana" is computed, so you will enough mana
to handle the hardest hit in D2, because it won't help you getting your
mana back when your already dead.

Well, i'll try that build as soon as i got some better items on the new
ladder, it's good, that you don't need to recast ES in every new area,
so the deaths from D1 won't appear: "Damn i forgot to activate ES".

1.11 will be the Patch where the stupid mana burn bug is fixed, making
the described build viable. It will come out, let me think ...

What mana burn bug? The one where the boss passes his ability on to any
other lessers in the area? Or the one that I saw in act 5 nightmare,
where the ranged "elemental" 'additions' hit my 45% energy shield, and one
hit took my mana from 550 to 0? Remember that the damage applied to
energy shield is before resists (according to the guide and others in
here), so elemental attacks are magnified by the negative resist before
your actual character's resists even come into play... That's why I'm
thinking this build won't be viable - unless magic damage reduced by % or
something...
