Question About Gambling +2 Skills Amulets
(too old to reply)

In a thread some time ago it was written that a char had to be 93 in order
to gamble +2 to skills ammys. I think it was Shiflet, but only because he is
always answering my questions, :o)

This page: http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml

says that "you can't gamble one until character level 84".

And this page: http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/magic/pre.shtml

puts the number 90 next to +2 to skills ammys and says of the number:

"The numbers in brackets listed next to the items the prefixes appear on are
the affix levels. They are used in several calculations (Gambling, Horadric
Cube Recipes, Crafting, more).if your character level is at that level shown
next to the item, you will be able to create (Horadric Cube) and Gamble
these magical bonuses.

Can someone clear this up for me?

You see, my zon is just now 90 and I am wondering if it is worth the bother
to get her to 93. Or was she there at 84?

Thanks.

That's not entirely right. You need to be clvl 93 in order to ensure that
when CRAFTING with a gambled amulet, you always have at least the CHANCE
to get +2 char skills.

You can gamble +2 char skills amulets a bit earlier than clvl93, since you
need ilvl90 on an amulet to get +2 char skills, and the ilvl of a gambled
amulet is within a certain bracket around your own clvl. I'm not sure of
the exact limits, but it's something like -4 to +4 or something.

I'm not sure that's right, nowadays in any case, but I'd be curious what
IS the exact clvl to make this possible. I would put it around the clvl
86-ish level, but I'm waiting to be corrected.

Precisely. That's also where the clvl93 requirement comes from. You need a
gambled amulet with a certain ilvl, so that when crafting it the resulting
ilvl is also 90 or more. See also the variables when gambling.

If you want to gamble those amulets, you have a pretty nice chance at one
right now. If you want to craft though, clvl93 would give you the best
chances at +2 char skills on the crafted amulet.

The alternative would be to find someone who is clvl93 or even more, and
let them gamble amulets, which you then use for crafting. I've done that a
few times in the previous ladder when I was still around lvl89 or so.

Patrick.

Thanks Patrick.

You are the other guy who is always answering my questions! :o)

I am talking strictly about gambling.

My zonny is 90 and I am ocd about picking up gold and selling body armors,
so I am always maxing out on gold, which I then gamble away.

By the way, you probably know this (but I didn't at first) but it is pretty
easy to gamble an ammy with plus 1,2, or 3 to a skill tree, or plus to char
class skills. So for a while I thought I was stylin, lol, not knowing that
they were not any good! (they had no other mods) I had about six of them
(plus 3 to summoning, plus 2 to cold, +1 to Sorc skills and the like), and i
thought I was set for some serious trading.

DOH!!!!

Talk about ignorant.

I learned the truth of them, and I sold them.

Thanks again.

As explained, due to the +/- to your clvl which is used to determine the
ilvl of the gambled item, you already have a chance greater than zero to
gamble a +2 class skills amulet.

Perhaps 'worthier' items to spend your gold on would be Coronets?

Well, actually, +3 to skill tree amulets can be pretty valuable,
especially if they have a secondary mod which adds life.

On SC Europe Ladder, according to the d2jsp priceguide, a +3 Paladin
Combat amulet with ~80 life, is worth around an Ist to a Gul, or
thereabouts. A perfect one (+3 PCombat/100life) would be around 1.5 HRs.

Other interesting mods are +3 sorc tree/trap/p&B skills. Druid elemental
and Barb Warcries is also interesting. The other +3 tree skills are less
(or even not) wanted.

Even plain +3 skills amulets do trade for a handful of pgems though.

I had a +3 Traps/teleport charges amulet in the previous ladder; my
Trapper liked it a lot, but I never tried trading it.

By the way, can you get an amulet that is magic or rare that is plus to
skills, without it being class specific? I looked over the prefix and suffix
pages at Arreat, but didn't see anything about that.

No, there is no magic modifier which adds a generic '+ to all skills', so
the only way to get that is on a few of the unique amulets.
