Diablo 2 (LOD) vs Project-Entropia

I've been playing Diablo 2 since it hit the store shelves some time ago.

I've been through it all on battlenet... from beginner to baal in hell.

Since that story about a guy named Deathifier bought that island for
$26,500 US currency, i've been playing Project-Entropia.

I first went in to see why someone would spend so much on a virtual
thing. I thought the guy had more money than sense.

Anyway, that game shouldn't be shrugged off like some crazy thing to do
for the rich. It is truly a fun game to play. Especially if you liked
the item hunting in Diablo 2 LOD and such.

I'm pressed for time here but I'll give a short rundown of LOD vs PE.

In LOD, once you have aquired those uber items, you pretty much, don't
have anything at all. Because once you get tired of playing and take a
break from the game for 90 days or so. Blizzard retires your accounts
and avitars. And there goes all that hard earned time (and a bit of
money off ebay) you put into the game.

In PE, this doesn't happen because the game is played with REAL money
instead of fake money. If they took away your account, it would be theft.

Blizzard strongly discourages the idea of buying and selling your items
with real money because of the retiring effect. MindArk (the people who
brought us Project Entropia) strongly encourages the buying and selling
of items. In fact, there is a built in game auction that allows you to
buy and sell. It is in fact better than ebay because you can't get
screwed by non-delivery or non-payment. When you place an item on the
auction (while still in the game) the item is removed from your
inventory and placed on the auction. You can cancel the auction if no
other bidders have placed a bid on it. You can also specify buyout
options. And best of all, It is a sellers paradise. If someone bids on
your item at the last few seconds, then the auction is extended for
another 5 minutes and notifies the other bidder (if any) that they have
been out-bidded. If the other bidder bids again... then the auction is
set to hold for 5 minutes again. This ensures you of the maximum amount
you can get for an item.

To me, it seems all these expert LOD players (especially item hunters
and traders) would de especially well on PE.

The money system works like this in PE... Each Avitar (your character)
has a money card with them. The card cannot be sold or given away. It
is basically part of the the character. When you put money on the card
(in game card) you can spend it however you need. Armor, weapons,
skills boosts, ammo, repairs, whatever. When you gain money (monster
drops or whatever) the money can be dropped onto the card and the value
is increased. You can cash-out of the game also (by transfering you
game money to your actual real life bank)... And thus, make real money
doing it.

The game is true 3D and is a beatiful world. I hear it's a lot like
WOW. It can be played in 3rd person or first person.

The game is set way into the future on another planet called Calypso.
The planet is actually pre-historic. Meaning, there are dinosaurs
roaming around along with mutant humans and robots that don't want you
there.

The weapons are swords (some like light-sabers), axes, guns (laser and
energy type), and mind-force. Mind force is sortof like the force on
star-wars.

There is all sorts of stuff to craft and it is getting more and more
selection by the adding of stuff by MindArk.

Almost everything is created by the players or is found from a mob drop.

It is an item collectors dream. Because once you get that cool item,
you can actually sell it for real money.

I know this message is a bit off topic for a D2 group, but I feel a lot
of you would have done real well in PE. Especially those uber players
that have mopped the floor in D2-LOD.

I got to go now... but the address is.

Good luck and hope to see you there.

This looks like a very cool game... The bad news was the reqs for
playing it. I only have a P3 500 and it lists a minimum 1 gig.
So.... until I upgrade to a P4 (soon I hope) I'll stick with the tried
and true D2! BTW, thanks for the info on PE.

It is also a 3 gig download. I tried playing it but kept getting
disconnected. My firewall probably has something to do with it.

It's a scam. I wouldn't bother even gracing their site. When I saw that he
was pushing a "game that uses Real Money" and talking about ebay the troll
meter went off and I hit mark as read 8D

How sure are you that it's a scam?
I read a bit about it on Gamespot and it doesn't seem like it's any
more underhanded than online only games tha require a monthly fee.

I didn't go check it out which perhaps I should have but the using real
money thing just makes me nuts. I refuse to play everquest and CoH for the
same reason. Sure they might be kewl games but I just don't see paying an
initial investment of upwards of $50.00 and then another $15-20 a month just
to even play the game. At least with single player options you have the
options to play and not continue to pay.

You can get the game and play it for free... You never have to offer
any credit cards or anything.

They have a way for people that don't want to spend any money to still
get a little money in the game. It's called sweating mobs (monsters).
You use a (built-in) character ability to draw sweat from monsters and
then you can sell it to the open market for current market prices.

Guys like me, use the sweat to make Mind Essence, which is a fuel for
using the force. Often times, I'll simply auction off the excess for
something like 500% of trade terminal (TT) value. Last round of buying
sweat, I bought 6000 units at about 1.25 ped per bottle (100 per
bottle). This made some new guy 75 PED. That's about $7.50 US
currency. He prolly didn't even put a cent into the game.

That newbie can now use his aquired funds to buy a gun (jester-d1 costs
about 4 ped average) and some ammo (1 PEC (0.01 PED) per charge). 75
PED will set you up quite nicely for getting you off and running.

After a while you will level up so high that you cannot sweat mobs
anymore. This is intentional to show people the game that don't want to
invest anything. Call it a demo mode.

If you are smart you can still keep going after you aquire some basic
equipment. You just will not be able to sweat mobs for free anymore.

The game is not a scam. It's more like controlled gambling. You can go
out and shoot just anything and it would be like putting money in a slot
machine. But a smart player would calculate and formulate a plan to
make a bit more than he spends.

The company (MindArk) pulls a little off the top to make expenses and
this is obtained from people that spend ammo and repairs that don't get
good returns.

If you have what it takes, you can make a few PED and keep accumilating
wealth. I personally, haven't made any money. I've lost about 30% of
what I've put into the game. Mosly because of newbie mistakes.
Learning the ropes, trying all things in the game. Stuff like that.

I'm a miner first and a hunter second. Mining is the most expensive
thing you can do to start out. It is very bad on newbies, because you
don't know where any good spots are. So you spend a couple hundred PED
on prospecting areas that don't pay well. Finally, you figure out what
you were doing wrong and have to find a way to earn it back.

Hunting is the fun part. I've aquired a 140 meter sniper rifle kicking
121 damage out with a 30x zoom scope (addon) and two laser attachments
(addons) and an Amp (booster type addon). This has a TT value of about
450 PED. Of course, nobody in their right mind would sell it to TT
(trade terminal) for base price. So it's true market value is about
600~700 PED. Remember, $1 = 10 PED.

I also have the highest mind force equipment that my skill level will
let me use. I have a personal teleport chip (about 240 PED value).

Plus Knight armor and other goodies.

I've aquired all that since about December 15th. Of course I didn't get
it by sweating (another mistake). I was the impatient guy that had to
"get on with the game" instead of learning it at a slower pace.

A lot of people tell me that I shouldn't be using such good equipment
yet because I haven't learned (skilled) enough to get maximum benefit
from the items. But sniping and killing something in one shot or two
from a distance, that the monster looks like a spec from without the
scope... Is kinda cool. ;)

The is no hard-core in PE. Death is free (you get revived for free).

There are PvP zones and you can't accidently get into them without
knowing. One of the PvP zones is player loot also. But you must take
an antidote shot to enter that zone. Keeps accidents from happening.

You can also attempt to get to the oil rig that produces 6 PED worth of
oil. But it's in a non-loot PvP zone. Makes it kinda interesting eh.

Anyway, it's not a scam.

Diablo is cool too. It has it's on "game". But without real risk, it
just doesn't hold my interests anymore.
