I've been playing Diablo 2 since it hit the store shelves some time ago.
I've been through it all on battlenet... from beginner to baal in hell.
Since that story about a guy named Deathifier bought that island for
$26,500 US currency, i've been playing Project-Entropia.
I first went in to see why someone would spend so much on a virtual
thing. I thought the guy had more money than sense.
Anyway, that game shouldn't be shrugged off like some crazy thing to do
for the rich. It is truly a fun game to play. Especially if you liked
the item hunting in Diablo 2 LOD and such.
I'm pressed for time here but I'll give a short rundown of LOD vs PE.
In LOD, once you have aquired those uber items, you pretty much, don't
have anything at all. Because once you get tired of playing and take a
break from the game for 90 days or so. Blizzard retires your accounts
and avitars. And there goes all that hard earned time (and a bit of
money off ebay) you put into the game.
In PE, this doesn't happen because the game is played with REAL money
instead of fake money. If they took away your account, it would be theft.
Blizzard strongly discourages the idea of buying and selling your items
with real money because of the retiring effect. MindArk (the people who
brought us Project Entropia) strongly encourages the buying and selling
of items. In fact, there is a built in game auction that allows you to
buy and sell. It is in fact better than ebay because you can't get
screwed by non-delivery or non-payment. When you place an item on the
auction (while still in the game) the item is removed from your
inventory and placed on the auction. You can cancel the auction if no
other bidders have placed a bid on it. You can also specify buyout
options. And best of all, It is a sellers paradise. If someone bids on
your item at the last few seconds, then the auction is extended for
another 5 minutes and notifies the other bidder (if any) that they have
been out-bidded. If the other bidder bids again... then the auction is
set to hold for 5 minutes again. This ensures you of the maximum amount
you can get for an item.
To me, it seems all these expert LOD players (especially item hunters
and traders) would de especially well on PE.
The money system works like this in PE... Each Avitar (your character)
has a money card with them. The card cannot be sold or given away. It
is basically part of the the character. When you put money on the card
(in game card) you can spend it however you need. Armor, weapons,
skills boosts, ammo, repairs, whatever. When you gain money (monster
drops or whatever) the money can be dropped onto the card and the value
is increased. You can cash-out of the game also (by transfering you
game money to your actual real life bank)... And thus, make real money
doing it.
The game is true 3D and is a beatiful world. I hear it's a lot like
WOW. It can be played in 3rd person or first person.
The game is set way into the future on another planet called Calypso.
The planet is actually pre-historic. Meaning, there are dinosaurs
roaming around along with mutant humans and robots that don't want you
there.
The weapons are swords (some like light-sabers), axes, guns (laser and
energy type), and mind-force. Mind force is sortof like the force on
star-wars.
There is all sorts of stuff to craft and it is getting more and more
selection by the adding of stuff by MindArk.
Almost everything is created by the players or is found from a mob drop.
It is an item collectors dream. Because once you get that cool item,
you can actually sell it for real money.
I know this message is a bit off topic for a D2 group, but I feel a lot
of you would have done real well in PE. Especially those uber players
that have mopped the floor in D2-LOD.
I got to go now... but the address is.

Good luck and hope to see you there.
