Mine have usually used Jab, I will admit, but that was specifically to
increase the challenge <g>
Fend AFAIK is still bugged, so most speargirls use Charged Strike (it's
got several synergies, so choose one to max). Then follow up with a
high-level Critical Strike, Valk and other passives. Gear should focus
on resists, +to skills and IAS; best choice of weapons includes an
upgraded Lycander's Flank, Arioc's or eth BotD if you're rich enough ;)

If you're on West SCL I have a couple of spears I can throw your way :)

Fend is supposed to be uninterruptible, unfortunately it is not.
Any time you go into hit recovery or a D/A/E occurs, Fend is interrupted.
If you really want to use Fend as your main attack, very high defense and no
D/A/E (therefore no Valk) helps quite a bit in avoiding interrupts.
I made a pure Javazon that uses Fend quite a bit, she has no D/A/E or Valk
and Fend works great. Decoy, although obvously not a replacement for a Valk,
helps quite a lot with crowd control in addition to the merc.

I had a hard time when deciding on my spearchick's main attack
as well. I ditched Power Strike because of the slowness. I
eventually ditched Fend for the reason you mentioned above. I
also ditched CS at the end. CS is awesome, but you frankly don't
need a spear -- a decent javelin is superb enough. And then,
since LS is also a synergy to CS, it looks somehow silly not to
use LS as well at least for crowd control. These make it rather
meaningless to go the spear route.

So in the end my spearchick became a jabbazon like yours.
