I encountered my first Dclone a couple of days ago. The SOJ sold was 1487. I
had a suspicion he's gonna come when 5 minutes into the game it showed like
1452 SOJ sold and then a minute later it showed 1468 SOJ sold. I've never
seen this small increment before and the time interval that fast. So I did
my usual routine: pit, meph, trav. Usually I'd do Eld/Shenk/Pindle but
didn't this time in case the evil force shows up. He's still not showing up
so I did ancient way, glacial and the next cave which name escapes me now.

No Dclone still so I decided to do the countess for a last run. I was in
black marsh when Diablo walks the earth. I got excited and nervous and went
to Frigid Highlands WP to spawn him at Eldritch. I tried killing him the
honest way but my 12 skels, 10 mages, 12 revives, Durga my might merc and my
clay golem went down in one minute.

I went to Cold Plains to get minions again and tried a second time to no
avail. All my buddies are offline and it was futile so I did the cheap Shenk
death cheese way. Got my annihilus (20/16/8) and got happy but kinda
disappointed that my lvl87 skellimancer couldn't do the job.

You lure Diablo Clone to the area of Shenk, then kill Shenk. When he dies,
all monsters in the vicinity die also.

As does your self respect when every time you look at the

in the game to get it rather than earning it honestly.

Well it's the only way certain character builds *can* kill the bugger.
<g> Especially if they were built in 1.09.

I wouldn't lose any self respect over it. My paladins can beat him fine. But
there's no way a sorc will stand up to him one on one, so kill him any way
you can. Besides, you are a warrior, in a war against the forces of evil. In
said war, any tactics are fair.

Up to the point where you become your like unto enemy... and in this

diablo clone will die automagically in all the fireworks aurrounding shenk's
death,...I think it works like this:

after you see 'diablo walks the earth', take the frigid highlands WP, diablo
clone will spawn as eldritch just up north a little ways,....lead him down
the stairs near shenk, kill shenk, diablo clone dies.

No. He appeared for me right after I killed Hell Diablo. The game was
about 45 minutes old, and there had been no soj messages the entire time.

As far as I know, no one has been able to determine a definite

The relationship is strongly implied, but there's no actual confirmation
for it. There certainly is a seed for it, probably server side (along
with everything else).

The SOJ messages are probablty just a red herring.

Yea, red herring, that's a good way to put it. :)
Well, I really did hope to see him last night. Was in a game, and it says
1125 sojs up to 1201 (4 messages in total) and I was hoping he showed up. So
I guess the "optimal" soj count is probably somewhere around 1500

I have a game going now that's been around for 26 hours. Last night
the count was 1150 and it's at 1153 now. At this rate a world event
may happen by June or July.

I've kept the game going by the rubber band trick that someone posted
using his Barb and BO, except I'm using my Pal and Holy Shield. My
big problem is I'm running out of things to kill. I've already
cleared out all of Acts 3, 4 and 5. I figure that by tomorrow night
everything will be dead. Wouldn't it be a kick in the ass if after I
kill the last Super Unique in the game there's a World Event.

Got some good items so far. This afternoon, in Act 3, I got a pair of
Waterwalk boots and a Lightsaber within about ten minutes of each
other. Then about a half hour ago I got Ondal's Almighty helm on the
Plains of Despair. All dropped by regular unique monsters.

Personally, I think that world events have nothing to do with people
selling SOJs.

Has anyone around here actually sold one? I might consider it if you
could buy it back. Usually, when you sell an item it's in the
vendor's inventory. Is that the case with SOJS?

Someone came up with the idea of putting a rubber band on the mouse
button with a Barb using Battle Orders. I tried the same trick with a
Pal and Holy Shield and it worked fine. I put HS as the right skill
and then put a rubber band on the mouse to keep the right button down.
I parked my Pal in the back room at Atma's in Act 2 and every time he
regenerated 35 mana, he recast HS and the game was still there
whenever I came back even after 10 hours.

I use a piece of scotch tape from right mouse button to the bottom of the
mouse. I've had some games still running after I wake up. Two annihilus

He sure did. When I came back in the morning and read the message log
and saw the "Diablo walks the earth" message, I went to the Stony
Field and there he was at the portal to Tristram. I had deliberately
stayed out of the Stony Field so I could spawn DC there.

After having the game going for three days, I had killed every monster
in Act 2, 3, 4, and 5. I was working on Act 1 when I went to bed last
night. I was wondering what I would do if I ran out of things to
kill. I figured I could leave the cave in the Blood Moor so there
would be at least one Super Unique left.

I was getting desperate after 4 days I didn't want to give the game
up. I even gambled the 2.3 million in gold I had collected to kill
time. All I got was a plus 3 to cold skills Sorc ammy.

Glad you got the charm.
So was I. I don't know if I'm ready to do it again, but I will leave
my Pal in a game over night from now on. Obviously a better chance of
a charm than if he's not in a game.

It is totally random. Everything depends on the server you are on as each
has a different counter. That's why the numbers change all the time. Also
people are beginning to suspect that you don't even have to actually SELL
SoJ to get these messages... that it is all controlled by Blizzard and no
actual SoJ ever need be sold.

I agree with this but I think you can speed up the process by actually
selling soj's. I have plenty to spare and am considering trying to manually
spawn the clone.
I haven't seen him since the first week of the new patch.

Quite true. I created a private game a few days ago, and immediately diablo
walks the earth.
Couldnt find him tho. I had just entered the game in Harrogath. Didnt really
have the character to kill him with anyway.
Is there some way to tell what zone he's in?

He'll spawn as the first superunique you come close enough to. Most people
seem to head toward either Eldritch, right at the Frigid wp in Act 5 or
Rakanishu, somewhere in Stony in Act 1.

I had my first run in with the clone last night (USEast after midnight EST).
It gave me cold chills I was so nervous. I will list a few observations I
had:

I was starting my run in Act1 Cold Plains. Shortly after I left the WP I
saw the first "SOJ Sold" message. It was 2000+ in number. As soon as I saw
the message I noticed a Super Unique Shaman. I killed him, not really
paying it no mind since there are always randomly spawned Super uniques all
over the game. I walked a little way further and saw another "SOJ Sold"
message. It had gone up 15 or so since the last count. Again, just as soon
as the message displayed I ran across another Super Unique (this time a
Spearwoman). Again, I killed it not really paying attention, however, as
the next "SOJ Sold" message came across I met yet another Super Unique I
began to see a correlation. So I tested my theory and went to Blood Raven.
Sure enough I got another "SOJ Sold" message just as I got in her range. At
this point I got really excited and started looking for every Super Unique I
could find figuring the more "SOJ Sold" messages I saw the sooner the Clone
would appear. Sure enough, after about 15 or so messages my screen shook
and I read "Diablo Walks the Earth".

After I made those observations I quickly TPed to town and switched off all
my MF gear for my Battle Gear (75 Resist all, 85 Lightning resist with 20
absorb to lighting and fire, and 75% blocking). I then looked at my
Experience bar and noticed I was very close to leveling to 86 with my
Hammerdin and I had close to 2 million in my chest, so I really didn't want
to risk death, so I did purposely spawned him up at Eldritch just in case it
looked bad. My merc went toe to toe with the vile beast for a while (he had
70+ Resist all, High defense, Reaper's Toll, and Blackhorn's), but after
looking at the clone's life bar I decided it wasn't going to be possible. I
was casting Hammers with around 6000 damage (and 50% faster cast), but I
wasn't seeming to connect no matter where I stood. After popping a few full
rejuvies I decided to take the coward's way out. He died to the death
animation of Shenk and I was rewarded with the unique small charm (11/12/6 -
I know it's on the low end, but beggars can't be choosers - it's the only
one I have). I think it was my second favorite find of the night (earlier
that night I had the luck to find a Unique Herald Of Zakarum Gilded Shield).
