Discussion:
Why did nobody tell here of the Median 2008 mod?

This mod seems to be even more extravagant than the Chaos Empire. I
only came to know about it via a forum where I am a regular.

The link is http://modsbylaz.planetdiablo.gamespy.com/, and the
screenshots are really impressive. I didn't know that such an old
engine can be made looking so fresh.

Roy, can you say a bit more? I've never used a proper mod before (I
mean a mod which changes the game content - I use both the RWM and RRM
for SP ...) and the Median2008 site makes it look really interesting -
effectively an entirely new game using the same engine. What's wrong
with it? How does it compare with other game-altering mods? (ZyEl is
the only one I know of which is still used with 1.11, though Gemstone
was a big one with 1.09)

AFAIK Zy-El is still 1.09-only too.
And yes, I miss Gemstone. Gonna have to dig around in my archives, see if I
can pull out the heavily-modified 1.10 version I had and see if I can rejig
it for 1.11. <g>

Too much graphical fireworks overburden, for one. Even with the
contrast all the way down and gamma all the way up, it hurts my eyes
after a while.

Skills that make no sense and are useless at high levels even more
often than D2 skills.

Ridiculously difficult areas next to easy areas.

Ridiculously excessive drops and overly complex item play.

Too many changes for the sake of change that actually make the game
worse than D2.

YMMV.

What he said :)

Javelins and throwing weapons have new types of attack associated with
them, "cascade attack" and "barrarge attack" respectively. These have
some headache-inducing graphics and sound effects associated with
them, but no description in the documentation about their effects on
the target.

The skills system has been replaced completely. Compared with the
D2:LoD skills we know so well, the new system is a case of "If it
ain't broke, don't fix it".

I liked the look of the new item system, but not enough to continue
playing with this mod.

I downloaded that mod just a few days ago, and it looks very interesting.
I played quite a bit of the nezeramontias mod, and this look just as
ove-the-top.

Unfortunately I cant find any private servers with under 400 ping from here
in Australia, and I dont really fel like playing single player.

I found it amusing that Sorc gets armageddon at level 1.
